American women's basketball hosts Lafayette College on Saturday at 2 p.m. with a chance to position itself in the Patriot League standings. With a win, American could move as high as third place in the PL.
Looking at the history of the Patriot League in the four years since American joined the league, it would appear as if today's game would be no contest. The Eagles are usually near the top of the league standings, having never finished below fourth in the league standings. Lafayette has finished in last each season American has been in the league, and hasn't finished in the top half of the league standings since the 1997-98 season, when the Leopards compiled a 7-5 league record and finished third.
American enters today's game allowing the fewest points per game in the Patriot League (61.1), but scores only 57.5 points per game. Meanwhile, the Leopards are the only PL team to score fewer points per game than AU (54.4). The first team to 60 could be the winner.
