American women's basketball hosts Colgate on Sunday in a key game in the Patriot League standings. Colgate enters with a 5-5 league record, tied for third in the PL, while American has a 4-6 PL record, tied for fifth. Both teams are still in the running to finish anywhere between second and eighth in the Patriot League.
Today's is a matchup of teams going in opposite directions. American enters this game having lost four of its last five games. Meanwhile, Colgate has won five of its last six games, dropping only its last game at Navy. If American were to lose today, they would tie for the most Patriot League losses since entering the league in 2001.
After starting 0-4 in the league, the Raiders, last season's regular-season champs and league representative in the NCAA Tournament, recovered and are now a legitimate contenders for the third seed in the Patriot League Tournament.
American, although just one game behind the Raiders, seems to be in dire straits. The Eagles are 4-6 in the PL, tied with Navy for fifth place, but the Midshipmen currently hold the head-to-head advantage. However, AU is just one game behind Army and Colgate for the third spot, and the Eagles hold the head-to-head advantage over Army. Today's game could be pivotal for the 3 seed.
