AU Sweeps Patriot League Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

WASHINGTON - American University swept the Patriot League Women's Basketball Weekly Awards, with senior Tala Hadavi (Upsala, Sweden/Vassalundsskolan) winning Player of the Week and freshman Sahar Nusseibeh (Uniontown, Ohio/North Canton Hoover) taking home the Rookie of the Week award, league officials announced Monday.

Hadavi is the first AU player this season to win the Player of the Week award. The senior guard had a career-day against Lehigh on Saturday, scoring a personal-best 30 points on eight-of-12 shooting. Hadavi was five-for-seven from beyond the arc and hit nine of 12 free throws. The Uppsala, Sweden, native also dished out six assists, another career best, in 40 minutes of work.

Hadavi leads the Eagles with 15.0 points per game this season and has averaged 22.2 ppg in her last five games.

Freshman Sahar Nusseibeh


Nusseibeh is the second AU player to win the PL Rookie of the Week award this season. In American's 75-68 road win over Lehigh, the Uniontown, Ohio, native scored 18 points in 37 minutes of work. Nusseibeh also grabbed six boards and had a career-high four blocks against the Mountain Hawks. The freshman forward also showed composure from the charity stripe, going six-for-six.

Nusseibeh has scored in double digits in seven of her last eight games and is averaging 11.8 ppg in Patriot League contests this season.

American's wins over Lafayette at home and Lehigh on the road mark the first time this season that the Eagles have won back-to-back games. American will look to make it three straight against the Patriot League's top team, Bucknell, on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
