CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – American University women's basketball senior Cecily Carl was selected for her third Patriot League Player of the Week honor of the year on Monday after continuing her impressive scoring run with back-to-back 24-point performances last week.
Carl leads the league during the second half of conference play with a staggering 24.8 ppg average after scoring 20+ points in six of her last seven games. She opened the week with a game-high 24 points during the win over Boston University, including a late three in the final minute that sent AU on the 8-0 run to win the game.
She scored another 24 during the win over Lafayette, single-handedly keeping AU in pace with the Leopards in the third quarter before leading the team with nine in the fourth as the Eagles clinched their 14th consecutive victory.
Carl now moves into the No. 6 spot in program history with 1,354 career points.
The Eagles are gearing up for the most crucial week yet of the regular season as they travel to Holy Cross on Wednesday before hosting Bucknell on Saturday for senior day. AU moved into the No. 1 spot in the league after a Holy Cross buzzer-beater dethroned then-No. 1 Bucknell on Saturday.
