WASHINGTON – American University senior Cecily Carl earned her second consecutive Patriot League Player of the Week honor on Monday after putting up one of her top career performances with 28 points during the 75-62 win over Army West Point on Saturday.
This was Carl's third consecutive game with over 20-points and third consecutive double-double after bringing down a team-high 10 rebounds. The 28 points would have been good for a career-high if not for her program-record 37 points against Colgate last weekend, which was ranked 21st in Division I for single-game performances this season.
She also led the team with four made three-pointers against the Black Knights as the Eagles tied the 2002 single-game record with 13 made threes.
Carl has stepped up in a big way since the start of conference season, averaging 16.7 ppg and 6.3 rpg. Only two PL teams have been able to limit her in scoring after Colgate (Jan. 6) and Navy (Jan. 9) held her to only six points. Since then, she has put in eight consecutive games in double-figures, including five with at least 15 points.
The Eagles will be back on the road against Loyola Maryland on Feb. 13 before returning home to face Lehigh at noon on Feb. 16.
