CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - American University women's basketball freshman Emily Fisher became the second consecutive Eagle selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday, Jan. 21, after she helped the team to a pair of wins over Loyola Maryland and Lehigh.
Fisher earned her first career start at AU against Loyola on Wednesday, Jan. 16, and certainly took advantage of the minutes, scoring a career-high 14 points and pitching in seven assists to lead the Eagles to an 82-38 rout over the Greyhounds. Included within her 14-point tally was a perfect 8-for-8 performance from the free throw line, along with 3-for-5 shooting from the field.
The Melbourne, Australia, native was back in double-figures on Saturday against Lehigh, coming off the bench to top her previous personal record with 15 points during the 61-53 victory. She shot 5-for-7 from the field, a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range, and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.
Fisher entered the conference season averaging 2.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, and 1.5 apg. After the first six games of the PL slate, those averages have bumped up to 4.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg, and 1.9 apg overall. In conference play alone, she is averaging 7.8 ppg, 3.7 rpg, and 2.7 apg.
The Eagles are back on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 23, with a 7:30 p.m. tip at Boston University. The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. but was pushed back to accommodate the AU men's game against the Terriers, which was rescheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday after the inclement weather postponed the game on Monday.
The next home game will be Saturday, Jan. 26, against Lafayette. This will be another double-header for the Eagles, with the women playing at noon followed by the men's game against Bucknell at 4 p.m.
