WASHINGTON - American University wrestler Andrew Silber has earned a wild card entry to the upcoming NCAA Tournament, the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee has announced. Silber becomes the third AU wrestler to qualify for this year's championship, joining teammates Mike Cannon and Kyle Borshoff.
Silber, a redshirt senior from Scotch Plains, N.J., placed fifth in last weekend's EIWA Championship at 197 pounds. He was one of 52 nationwide at-large selections for the NCAA Tournament.
Silber finished the season with a record of 22-12. In the EIWA Championships, he placed fifth and recorded victories over Franklin and Marshall's Colin Ely (fall, 0:32), Navy's Phillip Neese (8-5) and Penn's Thomas Shovlin (forfeit).
Cannon and Borshoff both qualified for the event based on their performances at the EIWA Championship. Cannon won the conference title at 174 pounds, while Borshoff took third in the 149-pound class.
The NCAA Division I Wrestling Tournament runs from March 19-21 in St Louis, Mo.
