WASHINGTON - The American University wrestling team will compete in the 105th EIWA Championships this Saturday and Sunday, March 7 - 8, at the Palestra in Philadelphia, Pa. The tournament will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday with the championship round beginning at 6:30 p.m. The EIWA Championships serve as American's qualifying tournament for the NCAA Championships. Five Eagles have been seeded in the top-five of their respective weight class.

How To Watch
The 105th EIWA Championships will be broadcast live via streaming video on the Penn Sports Network. Coverage of the tournament will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and will run until approximately 5 p.m. Sunday's broadcast will kick off at 10:30 a.m. and will run through the championship round beginning at 6:30 p.m. Viewers must subscribe to the Penn Sports Network.
Please note that matches featuring University of Pennsylvania will be given priority throughout the broadcast.
What to Watch For
American wrestlers will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships with their performances at the EIWA Championships. Junior Mike Cannon earned the No. 1 seed at 174 lbs. after completing the regular season with a perfect 26-0 record. Cannon placed third in last year's tournament as a 165-pounder and earned All-America status with a sixth-place finish at the 2008 NCAA Championships. Junior Kyle Borshoff is seeded fifth at 149 lbs. with a 24-4 record and placed sixth and fourth, respectively, at the EIWA's the last two years at 141 lbs. Freshman Thomas Williams earned the No. 4 seed at 125 lbs. with an 18-12 record and will be making his first appearance at the tournament. Senior Andrew Silber will also be competing in his first EIWA Championships as the fifth seed at 197 lbs. and amassed an overall record of 19-10 this season. Sophomore Matt Mariacher is the fifth seed at 141 lbs. with a 17-10 record and just missed placing on the podium at last year's tournament as a 133-pounder.
NCAA Qualifying The EIWA has received 38 automatic qualifiers to the 2009 NCAA Championships. This year each weight class has been assigned a specific number of automatic qualifiers based upon each individual's performance throughout the year including Div. I winning percentage, RPI and coaches ranking. 52 at-large qualifiers will be chosen after all qualifying tournaments have been completed and will be announced on March 11. The NCAA Div.
