CLEVELAND – Jeric Kasunic lost his consolation bout Friday at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, ending his season and American University's competition at the nationals, hosted at the Quicken Loans Arena.

Kasunic, a senior from Benton, Pa., finished 1-2 in the tournament after losing 3-2 in a second-round consolation match with Eric Schultz of Nebraska.

After a scoreless first period, Schultz won the toss for the second and deferred his decision. Kasunic took the down position and earned an escape after nine seconds, ending the second period with a 1-0 lead.

Starting in the down position, Schultz needed just seven seconds to tie the score and picked up the bout's only takedown with 42 seconds left. Kasunic got an escape to pull within 3-2, but couldn't get another score.

Kasunic finished his season with a 35-7 mark overall, tying for the third most victories ever in a season at AU.

Earlier this season, he became only the eighth Eagle to reach 100 career victories, ending his four years at 102-41. The two-time NCAA qualifier tied for sixth on AU's all-time list and second with 40 career pins.
