FAIRFAX, Va. – American University opens the final weekend of the regular season on Thursday when it travels across town to face George Mason University at 7 p.m. at GMU's Recreation Athletic Complex.

The Eagles head to Mason with a 6-6 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association. AU lost 25-16 to Drexel last Sunday in its last match.

American has been getting strong performances from a number of its wrestlers throughout the lineup.

Senior heavyweight Brett Dempsey is on a six-match winning streak, including a third-period pin in his last bout on Sunday. Dempsey, ranked 22nd in the most recent NCAA Coaches Panel, is second on the team with 31 points scored in dual matches this season.

That total is second only to senior 197-pounder Jeric Kasunic, whose 28-3 record leads the Eagles. Kasunic, with 41 team points, missed Sunday's dual against Drexel due to injury, but is 11-0 in duals this season.

Michael Sprague improved his record to 19-10 with a major-decision win last Sunday and was ranked 19th at 149 pounds last week. He joins Kasunic (10th) and junior Josh Terao (10th at 133 pounds) as Eagles who appeared in the NCAA rankings.

The Patriots are 3-12 overall and are on a seven-match losing skid. Mason's last dual-match victory was on Jan. 12 in a 29-9 victory over Davidson.

Heavyweight Matt Voss (19-10) is the Patriots' lone wrestler ranked in the most recent NCAA Coaches Panel listing, coming in at No. 30.

American will close the dual-match section of its schedule at home on Saturday when it plays host to Ohio University at 7 p.m. The Eagles will honor their three seniors during pregame that evening.
