AU wrestlers stand for the National Anthem

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Following a week away from competition, the American University wrestling team returns to action on Friday when it travels to Binghamton for a dual match between Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association opponents.

The Eagles, now 4-5 overall and 1-2 against EIWA competition, lost a pair of matches two weekends ago - at home to Navy, 25-9 and at ODU, 27-10.

Senior Jeric Kasunic comes into the weekend with AU's top individual record. The 197-pounder carries a 16-match winning streak and is 26-3 overall this season.

A 27th victory against either the Bearcats or at home on Sunday against Bucknell would move him into the top 20 on the single-season list in wins. It would also move him into eighth on AU's career victory list, as he is climbing the ladder toward becoming the eighth Eagle ever to reach the 100-win plateau.

Kasunic was 10th in the most recent national rankings by the NCAA Coaches Panel, the same placing as junior 133-pounder Josh Terao, who brings a 23-4 mark into action this weekend.

Michael Sprague (17th, 149 pounds) and Brett Dempsey (25th, heavyweight) were also ranked by the coaches panel.

Binghamton is 8-4 overall and 4-0 against league opponents. The Bearcats have won five straight duals, including a 19-18 win over Penn and a 21-12 victory over Drexel last weekend.

Junior Vincent DePrez (18-8 at 165 pounds) was 29th in the NCAA Coaches Panel rankings, with senior Steve Schneider (11-4 at 184) in 10th. Frankie Garcia, a sophomore 149-pounder, leads the Bearcats with a 20-9 record.

The Eagles' Sunday matinee with Bucknell begins at noon. Tickets for all AU wrestling home duals can be purchased online by clicking here.
