Navy Rallies for Dual-Match Victory over @AU_Wrestling

Brett Dempsey turns his Navy opponent

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jeric Kasunic, Brett Dempsey and Josh Terao each earned victories, but Navy won the final six bouts to earn a 25-9 victory over American in a wrestling dual match between Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association opponents Friday at Bender Arena.

The loss dropped the Eagles to 4-4 in dual matches and 1-2 against EIWA opponents. The Midshipmen improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.

With the dual starting at 197 pounds, Kasunic gave the Eagles the lead with a 5-1 win over Joshua Roetman, extending a 2-1 lead after two periods with a reversal and more than four minutes of riding time.

Kasunic, ranked ninth in the nation by TrackWrestling.com, extended a winning streak to 15 matches with the victory.

Dempsey followed with a 3-2 decision over Austin Faunce. Following a scoreless first period, Faunce scored a reversal late in the second period, but Dempsey escaped. Dempsey got an early escape in the third period and used a riding time edge to take the win.

Aslan Kilic broke a tie with a takedown with one second left of the 125-pound but, edging AU's Gage Curry.

Terao, ranked eighth in the nation at 133, used an escape and takedown in the second period and 3:07 of riding time to earn a 4-1 victory and give the Eagles a 9-3 edge in the team scoring.

Navy was able to pick up 3-2 decisions at 141 and 149, before going ahead 15-9 in team scoring after the 165-pound bout.

The Mids closed the dual with a major decision by AJ Alford at 174 and a pin in 2:52 at 184 to earn the victory.
