@AU_Wrestling To Compete at Journeymen Collegiate Classic

Josh Terao earns a victory at Campbell

TROY, N.Y. – American University will get tested by some of the top collegiate wrestling teams and individuals in the nation on Sunday when it competes in the Journeymen Collegiate Classic at Hudson Valley Community College.

Fresh from a split of dual matches with Eastern Michigan and Campbell last weekend, the Eagles will take 18 wrestlers to the Journeymen.

Wrestlers are paired with five- or six-man pools based on accomplishment and will compete inside the pool instead of in the traditional bracket format. Each wrestler is expected to get three bouts in the event.

Four nationally ranked teams will join American in the 14-school field. Oklahoma State (4th), Virginia Tech (7th), Lehigh (8th) and NC State (11th) will be in the tournament, along with notables as Army West Point and Virginia.

Senior heavyweight Brett Dempsey provided the highlight for American last weekend at Campbell. The fifth-year Eagle, who was AU's top senior male for GPA across all sports last season, showed as much prowess on the mat by beating a pair of nationally ranked wrestlers.

He joined Gage Curry, Josh Terao, Michael Sprague and Jeric Kasunic as Eagles who won both their dual matches last Sunday.

The Journeymen Collegiate Classic will be live streamed by FloWrestling. A subscription is needed for viewing.
