Terao, Kasunic Earn Wins in Ranking Matches

197-pounder Jeric Kasunic wrestles

WASHINGTONBryce Dempsey, Gage Curry and James Giaccia earned pins on Sunday morning to highlight victories in American University's ranking matches in an intrasquad battle at Bender Arena.

The matches are designed to give the Eagles the feeling of making weight and live competition, with some incoming freshmen getting their first sense of collegiate action.

NCAA qualifiers from last season, Josh Terao and Jeric Kasunic, also earned major decisions in their bouts.

"Overall, I thought it was a good first effort," said head coach Teague Moore. "You can tell it was their first time to make weight, then wrestle, and I think our timing needs some improvement. But we got through the day injury free, so that's a good thing.

"Some of our freshmen came out fighting and I thought that was good. Sometimes your first time putting on the college singlet they can be a little nervous. But that didn't show today. They came out fighting."

American begins its new season on Sunday, Nov. 5 with dual matches at Campbell and with Eastern Michigan.
