American Faces No. 2 Missouri in NWCA National Duals Regional

WASHINGTON – This weekend, the American University wrestling team faces its most formidable foe of the season as it visits second-ranked Missouri in the regional round of the 2015 EAS Sports Nutrition NWCA Division I National Duals, presented by Hibiclens and the United States Marine Corps in honor of Cliff Keen.

The dual is slated to begin at noon (CT) on Sunday, Feb. 15, and will be streamed online for free at

In this year's National Duals, 16 teams will compete at eight regional sites, with the winners advancing to the championship weekend, held Feb. 21-22 in Iowa City, Iowa. This year's field includes 10 teams that are ranked in the top 15 of the latest NWCA Coaches Poll, including five of the top six teams.

American enters Sunday's dual with a 7-10 dual ledger on the season after splitting a pair of EIWA matches last weekend at home. The Eagles dropped a 27-9 decision to 23rd-ranked Bucknell before rebounding with a 20-15 victory over Binghamton.

Junior David Terao, ranked 16th by InterMat at 125 pounds, leads American with a 32-3 overall record on the season, including a 17-0 mark in dual competition. Meanwhile, junior captain John Boyle has also reached the 30-win mark this season with an overall record of 30-7 at 157 pounds.

Missouri, which has posted a perfect 20-0 dual record this season, enters the weekend ranked second in the nation. The Tigers defeated Eastern Michigan, 31-7, last Sunday to earn their first-ever regular-season MAC Championship.

Eight of the Tigers' 10 starters are listed in the latest InterMat rankings, including six top-10 wrestlers. Leading the way for Missouri is reigning NCAA champion J'den Cox, currently ranked first in the nation at 197 pounds with a 26-0 record, along with Alan Waters, who is rated second at 125 pounds with a 23-0 mark.

Other top 10 wrestlers for Missouri include Lavion Mayes (141), Drake Houdashelt (149) and Johnny Ebien (174), all ranked fifth in their respective weight classes, and Joey Lavallee, who is ranked ninth at 157 pounds.
