WASHINGTON – The American University wrestling team returns home this weekend, Feb. 7-8, for a pair of EIWA dual meets. The Eagles will face 23rd-ranked Bucknell on Saturday at 7 p.m., while they host Binghamton on Sunday at 2 p.m.
AU enters this weekend with a 6-9 overall record and 1-4 mark against EIWA competition. Last weekend, the Eagles wrestled four duals in the Tarheel State, dropping matches to EIWA foe Drexel (19-18), Duke (30-9) and Gardner-Webb (19-18), while picking up a 42-6 win over Davidson.
Junior David Terao, ranked 16th nationally by InterMat at 125 pounds, leads the way for American with a 30-3 overall record on the season and a 15-0 mark in dual competition. Junior captain John Boyle ranks second on the team in total wins with a 28-7 mark at 157 pounds.
Bucknell, ranked 23rd in the latest NWCA/USA Today coaches' poll, holds a 12-3 overall record and 5-0 mark in the EIWA. The Bison are coming off a 36-9 win at Bloomsburg and have won seven straight dual meets.
Leading the way for Bucknell this season is senior Joe Stolfi, ranked 19th at heavyweight with a 30-5 overall record and 15-0 dual mark, while junior Paul Petrov owns a 20-3 overall record at 125 pounds.
Binghamton enters the weekend with a 6-8 overall record and 4-3 ledger in the EIWA. The Bearcats, who defeated Sacred Heart, 42-0, in their last match, will face George Mason on Friday evening.
Heavyweight Tyler Deuel has won a team-leading 18 matches this season for Binghamton, while David White (125), Zack Zupan (165) and Jack McKeever (184) have each posted 17 wins on the year.
