Eagles Head to Tar Heel State for Four Duals

WASHINGTON – The American University wrestling team has a busy weekend ahead, as it travels to the state of North Carolina for four dual matches.

First, the Eagles will head to Durham, N.C., to take on EIWA foe Drexel and host Duke on Saturday, Jan. 31, beginning at noon. AU then concludes the weekend on Sunday, Feb. 1, with a pair of matches at Davidson University, facing the host Wildcats at 2:30 p.m., followed by a dual versus Gardner-Webb at 4 p.m.

The Eagles enter this weekend with a 5-6 overall record and 1-3 mark against EIWA competition. American dropped a pair of league duals last weekend, falling to Columbia, 23-16, and Hofstra, 26-14.

Leading AU this season is junior David Terao, who is currently ranked 16th by InterMat at 125 pounds. Terao has posted a team-best 26-3 overall record on the season and an 11-0 mark in dual competition. Meanwhile, junior captain John Boyle ranks second on the team in total wins with a 25-6 overall mark at 157 pounds.

Drexel holds a 5-7 record on the year and 2-1 ledger in EIWA action. The Dragons are coming off a 21-20 victory over league foe Army, won on criteria. Leading the Dragons is Kevin Devoy, who is ranked 16th in the nation at 133 pounds.

Duke enters the weekend with a 5-4 mark on the year after falling to No. 14 Virginia, 30-9.

The Blue Devils are led by Conner Hartmann, who is ranked seventh in the nation at 197 pounds, and Jacob Kasper, who has compiled a team-best 18-6 overall record at 184 pounds.

Davidson owns a 4-10 overall record heading into the weekend after suffering a 36-3 loss to Chattanooga. Ian Solcz has earned a team-high 12 victories on the season at 174 pounds, while Scott Patrick owns a 5-1 dual mark at 184 pounds to lead the Wildcats.

Gardner-Webb has registered a 4-8 record on the season after defeating Campbell, 46-3, last week. The Bulldogs will also visit Appalachian State before heading to Davidson on Sunday. Leading Gardner-Webb this season are Ryan Mosley (149) and Austin Trott (165), who have each recorded 19 wins on the year.
