The American University wrestling team fell to Army, 26-10, in its first home EIWA dual of the season on Saturday night in Bender Arena.

The Black Knights earned decisions in the first four bouts, including a 2-1 loss by No. 9 Daniel Mitchell on a late takedown by Bryce Barnes, for the early 9-0 advantage in the match.

Blake Herrin picked up the first win of the dual for the Eagles, earning an 11-1 major decision over Stephen Snyder. No. 11 David Terao followed up the win with a 12-5 decision over Hunter Wood to put the team score at 9-7 in favor of Army.

Esteban Gomez-Rivera was edged in a 5-4 decision and the Black Knights picked up a fall at 141 lbs. to rebuild its advantage. Mark Cirello posted the final win of the dual for American at 149 lbs., earning a 6-0 decision over Mark Marchetti.

"I'm really happy for Blake tonight, he continues to turn a corner and he's believing in himself," said Head Coach Teague Moore. "His attitudes are great, his actions are right on the mat and I'm excited for him. David had a good win tonight and Mark also went out and wrestled some positions better than he had all year. I'm happy for those guys but we also lost a couple matches in the closing seconds that you can't lose so we have to learn from this and come out tomorrow with a little bit more fire."

The Eagles return to Bender Arena tomorrow for a two-mat triangular against Columbia and Gardner-Webb. The action gets underway at 12 p.m. with American's matches being broadcast on the Patriot League Network
