The American University wrestling team remained at No. 7 in the InterMat national rankings this week following last weekend's season opening competition at the Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational.
AU enters this weekend with four nationally-ranked wrestlers, led by No. 2 Ryan Flores at heavyweight and No. 4 Ganbayar Sanjaa at 157 lbs. Neither wrestler has competed thus far in 2011-12 and both will make their season debut on Monday, November 21 at the NWCA All-Star Classic in Tempe, Ariz. Flores will take on Maryland's Spencer Myers, who dropped this week from No. 3 to No. 6 in the rankings. Sanjaa will challenge No. 3 Jason Welch of Northwestern in his matchup at 157 lbs.
Matt Mariacher dropped two spots in the rankings this week to No. 9 at 141 lbs. following his runner-up performance at Brockport. Mariacher lost a decision to then-No. 9 Kendric Maple of Oklahoma in the championship bout.
Daniel Mitchell also remains in the rankings at No. 8 at 197 lbs. and has not competed thus far this season.
Aside from Flores and Sanjaa, the rest of the Eagles will be in action this Sunday, November 20 at the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia, Pa. Ten other teams besides the seventh-ranked Eagles are scheduled to appear in this year's event, including No. 16 Penn and No. 24 Northwestern
In last year's event, AU finished in third place out of 12 total teams as Penn took the team title. Then-senior Steve Fittery captured the championship at 157 lbs. while Mariacher, Mitchell, and Sanjaa each placed runner-up at their respective weight classes.
