No. 4 Kyle
Borshoff has been selected to participate in the 44th
annual National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic on
Sunday, November 22, in Fullerton, Calif. Borshoff, a 2009 NCAA
All-American, will be the first student-athlete in American history
to participate in the event.
The NWCA All-Star Classic annually pits two of the top wrestlers
in each weight class against one another in a showcase exhibition.
Borshoff will face No. 2 Lance Palmer at 149 lbs., a three-time
All-American.
Borshoff enters this season ranked fourth in the InterMat
Preseason Poll and fifth in the W.I.N Magazine, WrestlingReport.com
and D1CollegeWrestling.net Preseason Polls. Last season, Borshoff
earned his first All-America honor after finishing seventh at the
NCAA Championships. At the tournament, he compiled a record of 5-2
with two wins coming by bonus points. Overall, he completed his
year with a record of 33-7, including a 16-1 mark in dual meets,
and led the team in falls (6) and victories (33). Borshoff also
placed third at last season’s EIWA Championships, fourth at
the Midlands Championship and took second at the Keystone
Classic.
A two-time NCAA Qualifier, Borshoff has placed three times at the
EIWA Championships and Keystone Classic and fell one victory shy of
the podium at the Midlands as a freshman. His career record of
73-31 places him 11th all-time at American.
“We are very excited that Kyle was chosen to compete in this
very prestigious event,” Head Coach Mark
Cody commented. “Kyle has worked very hard over
the past three seasons to get to this point in his career and his
selection is a testament to that hard work. We believe that Kyle
will proudly represent our program and will have an outstanding
senior season.”
The Eagles have been tabbed as the No. 16 team in the country by
both InterMat and WrestlingReport.com based on projected NCAA
Tournament finishes. American will open its 2009-10 season on
Sunday, November 15, at the ACC Challenge and will also compete at
the Keystone Classic, Northeast Duals and Midlands Championships
during the early portion of its schedule. The team will open its
home slate on Friday, January 8, against Navy and will also host
Duke (Jan. 23), Ohio (Jan. 24), Drexel (Jan. 26) and Rutgers (Feb.
13) in Bender Arena this season.
