HAMILTON, N.Y. - After a successful regular season that found the American University men's soccer team Patriot League Co-Champions, the Eagles were rewarded with a pair of major awards at Thursday's banquet held prior to the start of the conference tournament. Todd West earned his second Coach of the Year award and freshman goalkeeper Matt Makowski earned Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors.

West led the Eagles to the No. 2 seed in this year's Tournament behind a 9-7-2 overall record and 5-1-1 Patriot League record. West's Eagles are second in the League in points (77), goals (27) and assists (23). This is his second Coach of the Year honor, as West also won the award in 2004.

Makowski had a breakout year for the Eagles, becoming the third American player to take home Rookie of the Year honors for the program behind teammate Phil Purdy (2005) and Andrew Herman (2001). Makowski earned two Patriot League Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week accolades each this season. The freshman is fifth in the Patriot League in goals-against average at 1.18 and is tied with Colgate's David Cappuccio for second in the League in shutouts with six.
