WASHINGTON - The American University men's soccer team capped off an outstanding week on the field by earning two BRINE Patriot League Player of the Week awards. After defeating No. 25 Georgetown (Soccer America), 4-1, and Lehigh, 1-0, junior center back Cooper Bryant was named PL Defender of the Week and freshman Matt Makowski was named Goalkeeper of the Week.
Bryant had two outstanding games for the Eagles and anchored a defense, along with Karsten Smith, that allowed just one goal to No. 25 Georgetown and just one shot on goal in the shutout over Lehigh. This is Bryant's third award from the league, as he was named Defender of the Week last season once and Rookie of the Week as a freshman.
Makowski went 2-0 on the week, defeating No. 25 Georgetown, making nine saves in the contest, before earning his fourth shutout of the season and second in conference play with a 1-0 win over Lehigh. Makowski was the Rookie of the Week twice this season; this marks his first Goalkeeper of the Week award.
The Eagles, who remain unbeaten in conference play at 2-0-1, will battle Holy Cross, the only other team without a loss, on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Reeves Field.
