@AU_MSoccer Hosts Capitol Cup This Weekend

WASHINGTON — The American University men's soccer team returns to Reeves Field after a two-week hiatus to host Mount St. Mary's on Friday and Gardner-Webb on Sunday in the Capitol Cup.

GAME NOTES

  • Capitol Cup Weekend — American and George Mason are the host sites for the Capitol Cup this weekend. The Patriots host Gardner-Webb on Friday and then The Mount on Sunday.
  • Goals — Sophomore Brenner Jarrad scored his first collegiate goal in a 5-1 deficit at West Virginia last Friday. Against George Mason, Jerry Zouantcha scored his first collegiate goal and Fabio Massaro tallied his first as an Eagle.
  • Scouting Mount St. Mary's — In its first season since reinstating the program in August of 2016, Mount St. Mary's is looking for its first win against the Eagles. In the first three games, the Mountaineers met two Patriot League teams (Bucknell and Loyola Maryland) and Rutgers. Elias Ordonez has scored the lone goal for the Mountaineers. Bobby Edwards has made 11 saves with a 2.33 goals against average.
  • Nakhid Signs Pro Deal — Former Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, Panos Nakhid '16, signed a professional deal with Belgium Second Division AS Verbroedering Geel.
  • Doug Dugan Excellence Award —  After defeating George Mason, 2-1, on Aug. 24, members of the American University men's soccer team, alumni and friends gathered in remembrance of Doug Dugan '81. Junior Tim Neumann was the second recipient of the excellence award. Neumann, a captain on this year's team has shown excellence and leadership in the classroom and on the field. 

    The Doug Dugan Excellence Award is named in memory of soccer alumnus and beloved husband, father, and friend, Doug Dugan '81, who died on July 18, 2016. Doug's family, former teammates, and classmates remember him as a high-quality player, dedicated teammate and fun-loving individual who remained selfless and ever upbeat as he battled a debilitating disease his entire adult life. The first Doug Dugan Excellence Award was presented to Panos Nakhid in 2016.
