The American University men's soccer team will take on Colgate on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Reeves Field.
Heading into the final match of the regular season, the Eagles currently sit in second place in the Patriot League with 13 points (4-1-1 record), trailing Bucknell (15 points) by only two points. American (9-5-2) can clinch the regular season conference championship and home field advantage in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament with a win versus Colgate and a loss or tie by Bucknell. The Bison will host Lehigh on Friday night.
Depending on the outcomes of the four PL matches this weekend, the Eagles can finish in either first, second or third place in the Patriot League's regular season race. American has already guaranteed itself a berth in the four-team field.
On Saturday, American looks to get back to its winning ways heading into the PL Tournament. After riding a nine-game undefeated streak through the middle of the season, the Eagles have dropped each of its last two contests, both of which were on the road. Last Saturday, American fell at Holy Cross, 2-0, and lost at #10 Virginia, 3-0, on Tuesday night.
Colgate comes into Saturday's match in desperate need of a good result to earn a spot in the Patriot League Tournament. The 2009 Patriot League preseason favorite comes into Saturday in a three-way tie for fourth place with nine points. Depending on the results from the weekend's matches, Colgate can finish as high as third and as low as sixth.
