Petty's Goal Pushes Men's Soccer Over Navy, 1-0; Eagles Remain Perfect in Patriot League Play

The American University men's soccer team defeated Navy, 1-0, on Saturday night in Annapolis, Md. Cameron Petty scored the lone goal of the match for the Eagles to move their record to a perfect 4-0 in Patriot League play. American has outscored its opponents 10-2 in its four conference matches.

Playing through a heavy downpour and cold temperatures, Petty took advantage of one of the match's few scoring opportunities with his 17th minute unassisted goal for American (8-3-1, 4-0). The senior's first goal of the season slipped past Navy goalkeeper Tyler Bristol and proved to be the difference in the match.

In the match, there were only six total shots on goal recorded, three for each squad. Navy (8-6, 2-2) held a 9-7 advantage in shots. Petty and Jack Scott each had a team-high two shots for the Eagles.

Goalkeeper Matt Makowski picked up the shutout for AU, his third of the season. He recorded three saves in the victory.

With the win, the Eagles are now 6-0-1 in their last seven matches, including the four consecutive victories to open up Patriot League play. The last time American began 4-0 in the Patriot League was in the 2004 season.
