CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — American University men's basketball freshman Josh Alexander was named the Patriot League Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week after an impressive week for the Eagles.
Alexander saw an increase in minutes last week as junior center Mark Gasperini missed the last two games due to an illness. In his absence, Alexander averaged 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 16.5 minutes per game.
Against Mount St. Mary's, Alexander had a season-best 12 points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes. In the week's finale, Alexander had seven points in 11 minutes in a home win against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Alexander has appeared in eight of 10 games this season, seventh in team scoring and the top scorer among newcomers averaging 3.4 points per game. From, the field, Alexander is shooting 75 percent from the field (7-12) and perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line.
American will conclude nonleague play at George Washington on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. before starting PL play in 2019 against Boston University on Jan. 2.
