WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sam Iorio finished with 16 points to lead American University, but Navy used an early second-half rally to earn a 61-44 victory over the Eagles in a Patriot League men's basketball game Wednesday at Bender Arena.

The Eagles fell to 5-17 overall and 2-9 in the league after suffering their fourth straight loss. The Midshipmen improved to 15-9 and 6-5 in the PL.

Shawn Anderson led Navy with 20 points, five assists and four steals, while George Kiernan earned a double-double off the bench with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Cam Davis went 7-for-8 at the free throw line to score 11 points for the Mids.

American also got nine points, six boards and four assists from Sa'eed Nelson, while Larry Motuzis chipped in with eight points.

AU opened the game on a 13-0 run, but Navy chipped away at the early deficit. The Mids pulled within 23-21 by halftime, getting 10 first-half points from Kiernan.

Navy opened the second half on a 12-5 run over the opening 7:30, taking a nine-point lead. The advantage grew to 48-32 with 6:58 left and the Mids went on for the win.

AU shot 24 percent from the floor and had 11 turnovers after halftime.

American travels to Army West Point on Saturday for its next game. The Eagles play next at Bender Arena on Saturday, Feb. 10 against Lehigh.
