Men's Basketball Trio Named to All-PL Teams

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — American University men's basketball placed three players on the All-Patriot League Teams, as announced by the league on Monday. Freshmen Sa'eed Nelson and Mark Gasperini were tabbed to the All-PL Rookie Team while senior Charlie Jones was named to the All-PL Defensive Team.

Nelson led the Eagles in the regular season and finished fifth in all games and ninth in the league-only scoring at 15.1 points per game. On the defensive end, Nelson led the league in overall steals per game at 2.4 and was second in PL-only games at 2.2

Gasperini finished second on the Eagles in points at 11.9 and third in rebounds 4.5 per game. Gasperini was the third highest scoring rookie in the league.

Jones took fourth on the Eagles scoring list (6.3) and was the top rebound (6.0). His defensive accolades had him sixth in league rebounding, second in defensive rebounds (6.0), second in minutes played (38.1), fifth in field goal percentage (56.0), sixth in steals (1.8), 10th in blocks (0.6).

Bucknell junior center Nana Foulland was selected as the Patriot League Player and Defensive Player of the Year, becoming just the second league student-athlete to garner both honors in the same season.

Foulland joined former Bison Mike Muscala - who received both honors following the 2012-13 season - as the only Patriot League player to be selected as the league's top player and defensive player since the conference began awarding a defensive player of the year during the 2004-05 season. The junior center finished eighth in the league in scoring (14.8 ppg), second in rebounding (7.9 rpg) and a league-leading 1.9 blocks per game for the regular-season champion Bison.

Bucknell Head Coach Nathan Davis earns his second-consecutive Patriot League Coach of the Year honor after leading the Bison to their third straight regular-season title. Davis becomes the fourth coach in league history to win the award in back-to-back years and the second to accomplish the feat during his first two seasons as a head coach in the league, joining former Lehigh coach Billy Taylor (2002-03, 2003-04). The Bison led the Patriot League in scoring offense (76.1 ppg) and scoring margin (+8.5) and have won six of the last seven regular-season titles.

Colgate freshman forward Will Rayman was selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, after earning five-time Patriot League The Rock Rookie of the Week awards. He led the Raiders with 14.4 points per game while pulling down 4.5 rebounds per game during his rookie campaign. Early in league play, Rayman broke Adonal Foyle's Colgate single-game rookie scoring record when he posted 34 points against Lafayette. He is the fourth Raider to earn Patriot League Rookie of the Year honor.

The 2016-17 Patriot League Men's Basketball Tournament begins with first round action on Tuesday. No. 8 Army (12-18, 6-12) hosts No. 9 American (8-21, 5-13) at Christl Arena with the opening tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.

No. 7 Loyola Maryland (14-15, 8-10) will host No. 10 Lafayette (9-20, 5-13) at Reitz Arena with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
