WASHINGTON – Sa'eed Nelson led the American University men's basketball team with 20 points but fell to Boston University, 67-64, on Wednesday at Bender Arena.
American (5-19, 2-11 PL) shot 46 percent from the field and took a one-point lead into the break, 37-36.
Justin Alston led the Terriers with a game-high 21 points. He shot 7-of-10 from the field and added six rebounds. Tyler Scanlon scored 16 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-3 from the foul line.
AU made its first five shots to open the contest and led 14-4 with five minutes into the game. AU had its largest lead, 29-17, with seven minutes left in the first. That's when BU turned things around and went on a 10-0 run.
Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field in the half.
In the second half, BU was able to close out the game when they took the lead with three minutes left. AU was never able to retake the lead.
Nelson drilled both free throws with 15 seconds left to cut the deficit to 63-62. Fanning regained the points on the other end to retake the three-point lead (65-62). Nelson drove the lane on the next possession but Scanlon hit two free throws with a second left.
American hits the snowy roads of New York this weekend and take on Army West Point on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
