Highest Scoring Output Leads to Home Win

WASHINGTONSa'eed Nelson led all scorers with 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists to propel the American University men's basketball team to a 77-62 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon at Bender Arena.

Mark Gasperini finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Delante Jones and James Washington added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Lonnie Rivera contributed nine points off the bench along with seven from Matt Cimino

American (2-7) shot 50 percent from the field and connected on 7-of-12 from the line. The Eagles outrebounded the Penguins 46-34.

The Eagles put up 56 of their 64 two-point field goal points in the paint.

AU led 31-22 at the break and then took its largest lead of 18 with 2:23 left in the contest.

Youngstown State was led by Cameron Morse with 21 points and six rebounds. Braun Hartfield had 12 points and Devin Haygood added 10 points off the bench. The Penguins shot 36 percent from the field. 

The Eagles will have a week off for finals and will return on Mon., Dec. 19 at noon against Maryland Eastern Shore.
