Holy Cross Game Notes

WASHINGTON — American is riding a three-game winning streak heading into Holy Cross on Monday. The Eagles took three of four away from Bender Arena claiming wins over Lafayette, Navy and Colgate.  The Eagles sit tied with Army West Point for eighth in the Patriot League and are half a game behind the Crusaders.

Defense was the key for American in the 54-49 victory over Colgate on Saturday. Junior Charlie Jones pulled down four rebounds and had two steals for the Eagles and senior Marko Vasic has a team-best five boards in the win. AU held Colgate to 44 percent from the field, compared to the 53.5 percent the Raiders shot in the earlier matchup this season.

Senior Jesse Reed led the Eagles with a game-high 19 points, including a pull away three with 51 seconds remaining to give AU a five-point advantage late in the contest.

Freshman Delante Jones reached double figures for the fourth straight contest and went 10-for-14 at the line finishing with 15 points.

Holy Cross Scout

Robert Champion leads the Crusaders in scoring, but is used predominantly as a reserve. Champion's 12.0 points per game is the best of any Patriot League substitute this season. He has started the last six Patriot League games. Malachi Alexander had a game-high 26 points in the 87-80 overtime win at Navy on Saturday. Alexander is second on the team averaging 11.4 points per game and leads the squad in rebounds at 5.2. Rookie Karl Charles has been a major boost after claiming the Patriot League Rookie of the Week award three times this season. He is third in scoring (10.8) and second in rebound (4.4) and leads the team at the line shooting 81.2 percent.
