Men's Basketball Succumbs to Colgate

WASHINGTON — Austin Tillotson led all scorers with 15 points to lead Colgate to a 56-37 win over American on Sunday afternoon in the Eagles' Patriot League home opener at Bender Arena.

Junior Paris Maragkos finished with 11 points in 16 minutes for American.

The Eagles finished the game shooting 35 percent from the field with 23 rebounds.

Colgate finished the game on 31-12 run after the AU tied the contest at 25-all with 18:59 left off a triple by freshman Delante Jones.

The Raiders shot 54 percent from the floor and outscored the Eagles 33-17 in the second half after taking a three-point lead, 23-20, into the locker room.

Colgate opened the contest with eight straight points and led by 11 (16-5) with 8:27 left in the first half. American battled back and cut the deficit to a single possession heading into the break on a three-point basket by senior Marko Vasic as the shot clock expired with 10 ticks remaining.

Senior Jesse Reed added eight points and Vasic had five the Eagles.

American will return to action on Wednesday evening at Bucknell before returning to Bender Arena on Jan. 9 to host Lehigh on Alumni Day.
