WASHINGTON — The American University men's basketball team will continue its road trip into Maryland for a meeting with Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday evening.

American is coming off a 68-50 win at New Hampshire on Saturday. Freshman James Washington led the Eagles with 19 points and was named the Lids Team Sport Patriot League Rookie of the Week for his contributions.

Senior Jesse Reed added 16 points and nine rebounds for AU and freshman Delante Jones scored 11 points with eight rebounds. 


Mount St. Mary's is looking for its first win of the season after participating in the subregional Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. The Mount played at Washington and Gonzaga before concluding the event with a pair of games at Elon. Prior to the event, The Mount faced BIG 10 members Maryland and Ohio State. Bk Ashe leads the team with 15.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Mount St. Mary's head coach Jamion Christian is a direct coaching descendant of former VCU head coach Shaka Smart. Christian spent two seasons at Bucknell and three seasons with William & Mary before working with Smart in Richmond. Christian's defense is a man-to-man full-court trapping press. The Mount were successful during the 2013-14 NEC Tournament when they defeated St. Francis Brooklyn after trailing by nine late in the contest.
