LORETTO, Pa. — The American University men's basketball team fell into an early deficit and dropped its third game of the season, 68-48, to Saint Francis University on Saturday night at Degol Arena.
American finished with two players in doubles figures, led by senior Jesse Reed with 15 points and six rebounds. Freshman Delante Jones added 12 points off the bench along with eight from classmate Lonnie Rivera.
The Red Flash (2-1) also had two players finish in double figures. Ben Millaud-Meunier led all scorers with 19 points. Josh Nebo chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.
American shot 34 percent from the floor while Saint Francis bested them at 42 percent. The Red Flash outrebounded the Eagles 43-27 and had 34 points in the paint.
The Red Flash opened the contest with eight straight points until Charlie Jones hit a layup at 16:30. Reed then cut the deficit with five consecutive points to put the Eagles down by two, 10-8. Saint Francis scored the next 21 points and led 33-8. During the run, Millaud-Meunier scored 10 straight points.
The Red Flash went into the locker room leading 37-12.
American outscored Saint Francis in the second half, 36-31, but the Red Flash's early lead was too much for the Eagles to combat.
