WASHINGTON – The American University cross country team is opening up championship competition this weekend as the Eagles head to Bucknell for the Patriot League Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

The women's 6,000-meter run will open the day at 11 a.m. at the Bucknell Cross Country Course in Lewisburg, Pa., followed by the men's 8,000m race at noon.

- Leading the way for the AU women this season has been senior Adriana Hooks, who guided the team to a sixth-place finish at the PL Championship meet last season with a fourth-place individual crossing, earning her second-career All-Patriot League honor.
- The men return two of the three All-Patriot League finishers from 2017 with seniors Matthew Rainey and Ben Doiron. The pair, along with then-senior Alaeldin Tirba, led the men to a fourth-place finish last season – the highest finish for the team since 2013.
