Cross Country Teams Set to Race at UVA and Delaware This Weekend

The American University men's and women's cross country teams will split up this weekend, competing in two meets throughout the region. The men's cross country team will travel south to the University of Virginia to take part in the UVA Panorama Farms Invitational on Friday, October 16, while the women's team will travel north to the University of Delaware to compete in the Blue and Gold Invitational on Saturday, October 17.

The men's team faces a field that includes three nationally-ranked teams in #15 Virginia, #24 Villanova, and #26 Duke, as well as several teams that are ranked in their regional polls.  This is the final tune-up for the Eagles, who are ranked #12 in the Mid-Atlantic region poll, before they head to Colgate for the Patriot League Championship Meet on October 31.

American is sending its top performers to the meet including juniors Jeff Brannigan, Colin Eustis, and Conor Sullivan, sophomores Craig Brown, Josh Olsen, and Ryan Williams, and freshman Mark Leininger.  Also racing at Virginia on Friday morning in the individual women's race is sophomore Octavia Rinehardt.

Meanwhile, the rest of the women's cross country team will compete at the Blue & Gold Invitational at Delaware.  The Eagles will take on the host Blue Hens, as well as teams from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.  This also marks the last race for the women's team before the Patriot League Championships.

Racing for the Eagles on Saturday will be seniors Rachel Forcino and Greta Wicklund, junior Haleigh Duggan, sophomores Tara Jakubik and Lauren Scholl, and freshman Katherine Hekker, Natalie Omundson, and Kellie Quinn.

The men's race is scheduled to start at 4:45pm on Friday and the women's race will start at 11:15am on Saturday.
