The American University men's and women's cross country teams
will split up this weekend, competing in two meets throughout the
region. The men's cross country team will travel south to the
University of Virginia to take part in the UVA Panorama Farms
Invitational on Friday, October 16, while the women's team will
travel north to the University of Delaware to compete in the Blue
and Gold Invitational on Saturday, October 17.
The men's team faces a field that includes three
nationally-ranked teams in #15 Virginia, #24 Villanova, and #26
Duke, as well as several teams that are ranked in their regional
polls. This is the final tune-up for the Eagles, who are
ranked #12 in the Mid-Atlantic region poll, before they head to
Colgate for the Patriot League Championship Meet on October 31.
American is sending its top performers to the meet including
juniors Jeff
Brannigan, Colin
Eustis, and Conor
Sullivan, sophomores Craig
Brown, Josh
Olsen, and Ryan
Williams, and freshman Mark
Leininger. Also racing at Virginia on Friday
morning in the individual women's race is sophomore Octavia
Rinehardt.
Meanwhile, the rest of the women's cross country team will
compete at the Blue & Gold Invitational at Delaware. The
Eagles will take on the host Blue Hens, as well as teams from
throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This also marks the last
race for the women's team before the Patriot League Championships.
Racing for the Eagles on Saturday will be seniors Rachel
Forcino and Greta
Wicklund, junior Haleigh
Duggan, sophomores Tara
Jakubik and Lauren
Scholl, and freshman Katherine
Hekker, Natalie
Omundson, and Kellie
Quinn.
The men's race is scheduled to start at 4:45pm on Friday and the
women's race will start at 11:15am on Saturday.
