CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Senior Brianna Belo became the first American University women's track & field student-athlete since 2015 to earn a spot on the outdoor Academic All-Patriot League squad, the league office released on Wednesday.
This is the first academic all-league nod for the Philadelphia-native, who holds a 3.21 cumulative GPA as a public health major. Belo will continue her education at AU as she pursues her M.A. in health promotion.
Belo is coming off a successful weekend at the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet, including her third conference title in the 800-meter run. Belo led the field from the gun, battling a headwind to cross less than a second off her school record time in the event with a 2:07.79 finish.
Her season will continue into the postseason as she currently sits within qualification for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the 800m run. Belo's 2:07.79 currently ranks 41st out of the 48 accepted entries in the east region. Considered the first round of the NCAA Championships, the preliminary meet will take place in Tampa, Fla., from May 24-26.
Belo prepares to close one of the most successful careers in program history, accumulating six program records since her freshman season in the indoor 400m dash, indoor 500m dash, indoor 800m run, indoor 1000m run, outdoor 400m dash and outdoor 800m run.
