WASHINGTON - Junior Brianna Belo was recognized as the GEICO AU Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, April 4, after highlighting the weekend for the American University track and field team with her fourth school record of the year during the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va.
Already one of the best middle distance runners to ever pass through the program, Belo continued to solidify her position in the AU record books during the indoor season with school records in the 500m dash (1:12.63), 800m run (2:11.41) and 1000m run (2:50.90).
She started her outdoor season in a similar fashion, just missing out on her own record mark in the 800m (2:08.23) during the Navy Invitational, where she crossed for her first win of the season in 2:09.67. Now, in only the third meet of her outdoor campaign, Belo has cruised through that record mark with her 2:07.53 finish at the Colonial Relays, currently the No. 18 time in the NCAA and No. 11 in the East Region.
The team will continue its season on Saturday, April 8, with a trip to Fairfax, Va., for the George Mason Spring Invitational. For the latest on American Track & Field, stay tuned to AUEagles.com and follow the team on Twitter @AU_TrackXC.
