WASHINGTON - Brianna Belo has had quite the start to her junior indoor track & field campaign, claiming a pair of early-season individual victories in the 800m and hitting the second-fastest time in American University track & field program history. Now, she can add GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week to those accomplishments, after she was awarded the honor on Monday, Jan. 23.
Belo kicked off 2017 with a new personal record (PR) in the 800m run at the Navy Mid-Week Invitational on Thursday, Jan. 19, improving on her No. 2 All-Time mark with a 2:13.96 finish.
She followed that up with yet another winning performance two days later, winning the Terrapin Invitational 800m on Saturday, Jan. 21, in 2:16.25.
Belo will return in yet another of her record book events, as she is scheduled to take the track in the 500m dash on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Patriot Games. She currently owns the school record in the event with her 1:14.46 PR. For the latest on the AU Track & Field team, stay tuned to AUEagles.com and follow the team on Twitter @AU_TrackXC.
