Lyons Named Patriot League Male Rookie of the Week

American University freshman Alex Lyons has been named the Patriot League Men's Track and Field Rookie of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday.

Lyons placed second in the 1000 meter run at the George Mason Invitational on Saturday with a personal best time of 2:28.46. He finished just behind teammate Conor Sullivan in the event, posting the second fastest time in the Patriot League this season. His time also eclipsed the IC4A qualifying standard and represents the ninth fastest time in school history.

Lyons has had an impressive freshman campaign, winning the mile run at the Delaware Invitational last month and placing in three separate meets.

The men's and women's track teams will now travel to New York City to take part in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Friday and Saturday, February 5-6. This meet will mark the final tune-up for the Eagles before competing in the Patriot League Championships February 19-21 in West Point, N.Y.
