FAIRFAX, Va. - The American University swimming and diving teams face the highlight of the fall semester this weekend when they travel to George Mason for the Patriot Invitational this Thursday through Saturday.
Competition will have the same schedule on all three days, with preliminary heats at 10 a.m., diving beginning at 1 p.m. and event finals each day at 6 p.m.
American has been off since participating in a quad meet at Bucknell on Nov. 4. The Eagles finished third on the women's side and fourth in the men's standings at that competition.
Seniors Fiona Caulfield and Tori Haviland are off to strong starts for the AU women. At the other end of the experience list, Eagle freshmen have already earned eight spots on all-time top-16 lists, including two each by diver Anna Derrow and backstroker Lily Koenig.
The AU men have been led by junior Scott Callander, who has posted good early season marks in the butterfly. Freshman Liam Riebling has picked up wins in the middle-distance freestyles, with sophomore Garrett Sooter off to a good start in distance events.
American will have two weeks off after the Patriot Invitational to prepare to send squads to the U.S. Swimming Short-Course Nationals at Ohio State and to the ECAC Winter Championships on Long Island.
