WASHINGTON – A pair of Patriot League foes will get an early look at each other on Friday when Loyola Maryland comes to American for a dual swimming and diving meet at the Reeves Aquatic Complex.
Swimming events at AU will begin at 4 p.m., with the diving events being contested at Loyola.
Students are invited to attend Friday's Bender Splashdown District Day swim meet to partake in the fanfest on the Bender Arena concourse. AU students with ID will be treated to free Domino's Pizza, Robeks Smoothies and Coca-Cola products while supplies last.
The American men's and women's teams placed second last Friday in the season-opening Potomac Relay Invitational. The AU women finished just two points behind George Mason in the relay meet.
Senior Tori Haviland and freshman Ellie Kight each swam on a winning relay for the Eagles, who captured the 500-yard freestyle relay and the 800 free relay. Senior Shannon Exley and freshmen Alex Brosvik, Ellen Johnson and Natalie Hamlet also had legs on the first-place quartets.
American has a dozen freshmen on the women's side this season.
On the men's side, Scott Callander, Jason Tillotson, Garrett Sooter and Sam Fromkin earned a second in the 800 free relay. Tillotson, Fromkin, Callander and Giancarlo Payamps were second in the 4x100 individual medley relay.
The Greyhounds will be opening their official season at American on Friday. Loyola hosted its alumni meet last weekend.
