WASHINGTON – Tori Haviland and Ellie Kight swam on two first-place relays to lift the American University women's team to a second-place finish in the team standings at the Potomac Relay Invitational that opened the 2017-18 swimming and diving season.
The Eagle women finished with 378 points, just two points behind George Mason's women's team.
American's men's team also placed second in the four-team competition, scoring 319 points to finish behind the Patriots' 354.
Shannon Exley, Alex Brosvik, Kight and Havlland won the 500 freestyle relay in 4:45.04, touching just a half-second ahead of Mason. Haviland had the lead leg and Kight the anchor in joining Ellen Johnson and Natalie Hamlet in the winning 800 free relay in 7:56.33.
Tillotson, Giancarlo Payamps, Fromkin and Callander placed second in the 400 medley relay in 3:45.54.
AU diver Benjamin Cook was second on the 3-meter board, as the diving events featured one scorer per team earning points.
