The American University swimming and diving team will host the
Potomac Relay Invitational this Friday, October 2 at 3 p.m. in the
Reeves Aquatic Complex. Georgetown, George Mason, George
Washington, Howard, Mary Washington, and Towson will join the
Eagles in their first meet of the year.
Three All-Patriot League selections return for the Eagles this
year. Junior Dory
Isaacs set three new school records (in the 50 free,
100 free and 100 breast) in the 2008-09 campaign. She captured the
Patriot League title in the 100 breast in 1:01.23. Senior
Matt
Pelletier holds the school record for the 50 freestyle
and 100 backstroke. Additionally, in her freshman season,
Alexandra
Wessel jumped into the American record books. She
currently holds the second best time for the 200 and 500 freestyle.
Out of the pool, the men's swimming and diving team posted a
3.54 GPA in the spring 2009 semester, the highest team grade-point
average of all Division I swimming and diving programs. The women's
program placed 14th in the nation with a 3.44 GPA and have seven
student-athletes earn over a 3.8 GPA in the spring semester.
The diving team will also be participating in the Potomac
Relays, although its competition will be taking place at
Georgetown.
American will take to the pool against the local rivals at 3
p.m. Admission to the Potomac Relay is free and fans can watch the
meet from the mezzanine of the Bender Arena lobby.
The meet will feature nine events in the following order:
200 Medley Relay
800 Freestyle Relay
3 x 100 Butterfly Relay
3 x 100 Backstroke Relay
3 x 100 Breaststroke Relay
500 Freestyle Relay (50-100-150-200)
4 x 100 IM Relay
1000 Freestyle Relay (2 x 500)
200 Freestyle Relay
