Bill Ruvo was also honored as the first team keeper for the 1979 National All-Star Team when he led the team to an East Coast Conference League Championship in 1979 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals with a GAA of 0.53.

The winning run included six-consecutive shutouts and victories over Temple, Rider, and UVA before falling to finalist Clemson, 1-0. The season included the first NCAA victory in American University history.  

He set goalkeeping records in goals against average (0.46), most consecutive shutouts (5) and most consecutive shutout minutes (531:23) in his career with the men’s soccer team. His GAA record still stands today.

Ruvo was also a member of the 1976 South Jersey All Stars, selected into the Olympic Development Program and participated in professional tryouts with the Washington Dimplomats.
