Since 2005, David Bierwirth has been the Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations. Under Bierwirth's leadership, AU Athletics has expanded the number of donors by over 40%, increased the amount of dollars raised through the Eagles Club and achieved growth in sponsorship and ticketing. Additionally, Bierwirth has managed the department's licensing, branding and visual identity efforts.
Bierwirth previously served as AU Athletics' Director of Marketing, and established the department's first comprehensive sponsorship program. He forged media rights agreements with Comcast SportsNet, College Sports Television and secured on air coverage for AU men's basketball on ClearChannel Radio DC . Bierwirth also spearheaded an aggressive branding campaign that resulted in the Eagles' partnership with Nike, new Athletics marks and logos and the redesign of AUeagles.com.
Prior to joining AU, David served as General Manager of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) for Host Communications Inc. (HOST), There he was responsible for the management of all sponsorship sales, television production and marketing efforts for the 10 school conference. He negotiated the league's first-ever radio initiative with 1050 ESPN Radio in New York City while increasing both the MAAC's and HOST's national advertising in the region.
Bierwirth served as the Associate Athletics Director at Pace University from 1998-2000. At Pace, he was responsible for all athletics and alumni development, marketing and sponsorships. He created and built the Setters Club into the principle means of giving for athletics alumni, oversaw the sports information department and was responsible for team travel and administration. Bierwirth is familiar with the D.C. market as he was also the Director of Sports Marketing and Ticket Manager at George Washington University from 1995-98. He managed their Athletic Director's Club, corporate partner program and ticket sales.
A 1993 graduate of Saint Michael's College, Bierwirth attended SMC on a basketball scholarship and was also a two-year member of the baseball team. He has attained his Sports Marketing Professional Certification from the Gatton School of Business at the University of Kentucky.
