Philip Reuer was hired as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for American University Athletics in July 2017. In this role, he is responsible for the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for wrestling, women’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, and swimming & diving. He also handles sport nutrition education for all 10 varsity programs.
He came to AU after two seasons as a graduate assistant at South Dakota State. There he worked with wrestling, cross country and golf and helped produce the Jackrabbits’ first-ever Big XII Conference champion.
He also served as the interim strength and conditioning head coach for football at South Dakota School of Mines (NCAA Division II) and spent time at the University of Mary (N.D.), the U.S. Olympic Training Center, and with the football program at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Reuer earned a bachelor’s in exercise science from Valley City State (N.D.) University in 2014 and completed his masters in nutrition and exercise science from South Dakota State in 2017. He holds certifications with the CSCCAA, with the NSCA, and with USAW.
