Light, Terao Honored as Top Seniors Academically

WASHINGTON – The American University Athletics and Recreation Department celebrated the top ten percent of its academic achievers during the 2019 Student-Athlete Academic Reception on Wednesday, including the two top graduating seniors with Madie Light and Josh Terao.

The evening honored 27 student-athletes across all four classes and nine sports who closed the 2018 calendar year with a 3.90 GPA or higher. The event, attended by coaches, administrators and distinguished campus leaders including American University President Sylvia Burwell and Provost Dr. Daniel J. Myers, was held at Constitution Hall on AU's East Campus.

Light (women's soccer) and Terao (wrestling) were individually honored after earning the top GPA's out the senior class for 2018. Light, a senior forward from Hershey, Pa., closed the calendar year with an impressive 3.98. The three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll honoree earned her bachelor's degree in accounting and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.95 as she works toward her master's degree with a graduate certificate in forensic accounting.

Terao, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, closed 2018 with a GPA of 3.91. The biology major holds a 3.80 cumulative GPA and is a three-time Academic All-EIWA honoree, two-time NWCA All-Academic Team selection, and a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier.
