Caulfield, Dempsey Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large First Team

Fiona Caulfield and Brett Dempsey selected for CoSIDA Academic At-Large All-District First Team

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Fiona Caulfield and Brett Dempsey were voted to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced recently.

Caulfield, a senior diver from Alamo, Calif., ended her collegiate career at AU with a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average in psychology. She was a three-time member of the Academic All-Patriot League Team and was one of only five Patriot League student-athletes chosen to the all-district teams.

Caulfield was AU's top individual scorer at the 2018 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships. During her senior season, she was selected as the Women's Diver of the Meet at the ECAC Winter Championships. She was honored in April 2018 as the AU female senior with the highest individual GPA across all sports.

Dempsey, a wrestler from Kalamazoo, Mich., was one of only five wrestlers chosen nationally. A graduate student in biology, Dempsey finished his undergraduate career with a 3.95 GPA in biology and carries a 4.0 average in graduate school. Dempsey has been accepted into medical school at Western Michigan University.

Dempsey was a heavyweight for the Eagles' wrestling program and earned his first trip to the NCAA National Championships last March. He has also been honored academically this spring by the National Wrestling Coaches Association and the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association. He earned AU's top senior male GPA honor in April 2017.

CoSIDA's District 2 includes all NCAA Division I schools from Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. The At-Large program covers all Division I sports except soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, and cross country/track.

Each all-district selection advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with those teams announced in June.
