Sophomore guard Alexis Dobbs of the American University women’s basketball team has been named the AU Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of Athletics officials announced Monday.
Dobbs led the Eagles to two double-digit wins last week, as she averaged 15.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 3.0 apg, and 1.5 spg. She was 55 percent (11-for-20) from the field, including an even 50 percent (8-of-16) from three-point range.
Dobbs scored a career-best and game-high 21 points on a personal-best six made three-pointers in Wednesday’s win at second-place Lehigh. Five of her threes came in the second half as AU opened up a 27-point lead at one point late in the period. AU’s 17-point win at Lehigh is its worst home conference loss since an 84-67 defeat at the hands of Holy Cross back in 2000. Additionally, it marks the Mountain Hawks' worst defeat to a conference foe since a 64-37 setback at Bucknell on January 24, 2007.
The Berea, Ohio, native also scored in double figures in AU’s 20-point win over Holy Cross on Saturday, the Crusaders’ worst conference loss of the season. She tallied 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting along with four assists.
Dobbs and the Eagles are 10-0 in Patriot League play, becoming the first Patriot League team to start with 10 straight conference wins in seven years. AU will look to make it 11-0 when it travels to Annapolis, Md., to face Navy on Wednesday, February 15.
